Default Carbed issues

Running a Holley 8050S (750 Vac Sec) No idea what is in it as far as jets/springs.

Problem is that the car stumbles and sputters under load, i.e. if I nail it from a start, try to kick it down a gear etc. Once it gets past the stumble, it runs like a scalded chicken. Part throttle accelleration and just cruising are fine, but dip the throttle and it stumbles.

Any idea where to start? I bought a Holley Jet kit, but it sounds like I might need to get a secondary spring kit too.

The combo, I am running:

Edelbrock Performer 5.0 Heads (1.9/1.6)
FMS 1.6 R/R
Comp Cams XE-274HR (.555/.565)
92 5.0 block and stock pistons etc
92 AOD slushbox.
3.80 rear end

i think your carb is too big.

but you have what you have, start playing with the squirters, you probably need smaller ones.

I am begining to think you guys are right about the carb size. Do you think a 650 Vac sec would be a better choice?

600 or 650 double pumper or you can try a couple things with the bigger carb. sometimes or most times a stumble is caused by not enough fuel may need an adjustment make sure the pump arm has has minimal or no clearence against the lever that pushes it. you also may need larger squirters. if someone has put too large of a jet in it. or too weak of a spring or clipped the spring in the vacume canister it will cause the secondaries to open too soon, causing a bog or sputter.by looking at your set up you need a serious stall converter if you dont have a converter this is most likely the problem. I would guess you would need at least 2500 but would be better with a 3000/3500 stall.I am guessing from the gear ratio you have an 8 inch rear. I would go to a double pumper and definately a converter I have a converter for an aod but it is a b@m holeshot 2400 stall 125.00 it cost 330 new from summitt.

The carb I bought refurbered but I have no idea on the jets/springs or any of it. I plan on getting a secondary spring kit and have a jet kit sitting here waiting for some testing. If the jets are stock I understand I should go a little smaller on them no?

I have a 2400 stall in there now, I know down the road I need to go larger. I am running an 8" rear. I'm not planning on blasting down the dragstrip too often, I just want to be able to hit the gas hard and not bog.
