Technically yes. Realistically no. There are more bends and curves in a side exhaust, but the power loss is minimal. You probably would lose 1hp for every 100hp that your motor makes, over a regular setup. 400hp car will never miss 4hp. If you like it, go for it. Look at the 2000 Cobra R. If it robbed that much power, the engineers wouldn't have done it.

its gotta do bends to get over your axles so i doubt youll lose to much due to bends. I have heard the same... I wouldnt do it for performance reasons though

it depends how you route it, if you have a custom fabbed set that is a straight shot to the side, then no, the SVO and roush ones make a complete u turn, and this is where the power loss supposedly comes from, but as toma said, even if it does take a little, you wont notice it, and hell, if it really is a little bit of a restriction, it will probably give you a tad bit of torque down below, which is more useful on a mildly modded street car anyway

just don't forget the down sides: you'll never be able to cary a conversation (too loud), you'll always smell like you just mowed the lawn. having second thoughts about mine.

This should read that BORLA has made a side exhaust kit to make more power than the Flowmaster cat back. "Steeda exhaust" is rebadged Borla exhaust. EVERYTHING between a the Steeda and Borla exhaust is EXACTLY the same...with the exception of the different name stamped on the muffler and the price markup on the Steeda units. For example, Borla exhaust for the Focus is about $300. The same exact "Steeda" exhaust is $400. Absolutely no difference between the two setups. Just an FYI.

+1 on what Alan said. Look around at Steeda's invintory and you'll start to notice alot of things like that.

I don't know how the 2000 Cobra R exhaust is routed, but I am pretty sure it has bends in certain places for a reason. I know why it is out the side and not the back, but I don't have a good picture of wether or not it makes the u turn.
