Yeah, I want some power up high. My damn car weighs almost nothing for a Stang of its type, and well..I haven't decided fully between a 5 speed or a C4, but I want to make power up high in the band, not just down low. I want it to spank at the track, but I also wanna be able to take it on the roads when I get a bug up my ass.

Ya think it'd be easier than trying to extract that power from a 302? If so, then I just need to go through the ballbusting task of finding a 351...maybe I'll hit up a junkyard.

-Show, you're talking about the 351? I thought gt40p heads = teh suck? Sounds a lot easier/cheaper to make my kinda power outta a 351 than I thought at first...

maybe a set of gt-40 heads but they will most likely have to be drilled for 1/2" head bolts, unless there are specific GT-40 heads for the 351

The P-heads are actually great heads...IMO. Vince just had a bad experience and mine have only been good. I used to run a set that were milled and had stainless valves installed. The exhaust side was opened up to allow a little larger valve. I put about 2+ years on them and countless miles. (The speed-o never really worked right!) I only pulled them, because the compression was going to be to high for the SC that I was putting on. With a stock bottom end, E-cam, the P-heads, and Cobra intake, I put 300 to the rear wheels. I replaced the P-heads with the GT-40s, Performer RPM intake, and Novi1000 (9ish #s) and put 400+ to the rear wheels. I don’t think you could ever see 400rwhp without a power adder. You might be able to, but I don’t think it would last very long or be street-able. If you want 400na, you should do your homework on the 351. If you just want 400rwhp, get the SC and be done with it.

you could build a 351 and make 400rwhp n/a, but your deffinatly not going to retain the stock bottom end. if you do then you wont havea 400hp car for very long. lat time i saw Cody's car on the dyno (herecomestrouble) he put down really good numbers for his 302 and spectacular numbers with the juice.

302 will make 400rwhp but you wont see any street action with it like that kind of combo. just find a 302 and put in a good bottom end for a reasonable price and throw on a 100-150 shot and you could put down anywhere from 400-450rwhp.

you could always buy a 302 block and then a stroker kit from someone and make a 331 and then spray a small shot and make hella good power and still be able to drive it to work everyday. a good trickflow set-up from heads, upper&lower intake, and a nasty cam will make over 300 to the wheels and then your only a 100 shot wayay from your goal.

Indeed they are great heads, but mine were milled like a mother f*cker.

Yes I would also go S/C or juice to make a honest 400 streetable combo, it can be done naturally but hard streetability. back in mid 80's before aftermarket heads, we had a Maverick 289, 12-1's, 620 lift crane flat tappet, twisted torker, 750 DP, 351 Windsor hds early style w/ 194 155 valves, DougNash proshifted trans, 5:13's, tractrion bars and slicks it went 11:30's in 1/4 naturally aspirated. We did street race this car but would not have been a daily driver what so ever.
