Can you determin by tag,if its a 28 or 31 spline?

How much better are 31 spline,and im wondering if I need it or 28 will be good..It will be for a rotary powered car /RX7

btw looking for
4 lug Welds drag lites,and
5.14 gears

 

Did you find a 9 inch Ford with 4 lugs????? Just wondering because you were looking for 4 lug Welds. In general the application will determine the spline. For example: 78-79 Bronco 9" will be 31 spline. 70 Torino with a "N" on the pumpkin will be a nodular 9" Detroit locker w/ 31 spline axles. The tag code from my experience will be a hit or miss. Expect most of the stuff you find to be 28 spline and the tag will give you the ratio.
