Default Strange leak.

My 82 Mustang went from about ready to have exhaust put on it to a fully undriveable 3,200 lb pile of neatly shaped metal. It's battery is dead, (beside the point now), and it's leaking coolant and transmission fluid. My question regards the transmission fluid leak. I was moving the car from one spot in the driveway to the other when I heard a clicking noise. One that sounded like it was timed proportionally to the rotation of the wheels. After moving the car I found a neatly little trail of transmission fluid leading from the spot it was, to where it was now. The funny thing is, it only leaked when I moved the car, and only leaked when I moved it backwards. When I pushed it forward up the driveway again, no leak. I'm wondering if anyone knows what's up, or can give any hints. The conditions were that the car was off at the time, in neutral, clutch not depressed, and moving backwards when it leaked. (I had to push the car as the battery is completely dead). Help?

look underneath, check where the driveshaft goes into the back of the trans, look for little fluid titties.

Check the tailshaft seal where the driveshaft yoke slides into the tranny. The rubber may have died.

what color is the fluid on the ground?? If its red then its probably power sterring fluid like the others have said. If your car is a stick then it would have gear oil in the transmission.

Well that's better now that I know someone else has had the problem. Yes I was turning the wheel, and I only turned the wheel when it was moving backwards, pushing it back the other way I didn't turn the wheel. The fluid is bright red, and leaves rainbow marks when washed away, as I discovered after washing my car. So it's power steering fluid, and not tranny fluid? And this will only happen when the car is off and is not really a problem?

My tranny fluid is bright red and my P/S fluid is clear...so not necessarily.
