Default 3.0 24V DOHC sable/Taurus

My 99 Sable is a fantastic car. It is very fast and reliable, however now that i am buying a new daily driver i was thinking of modding my sable. Anyone think it would be worth it to supercharge my sable? It has 200hp as it has duel exhaust. Does the engine and auto tranny have any room to grow? I know it is FWD but launch isnīt too important as I am a highway revver. Any opinions?

Thanks in Advance,

Craig

P.S.

Buy American!

Those are good motors. Put some 2.5 liter contour SVT heads on there and you gotta nice lil motor The cougar guys put your 3.0 block on their 2.5 heads for the same result.

Get a limited slip diff. I took my SHO to the track and the only way I didn't smoke the tire(right front tire) all the way track was to roll out of the hole. Most SHO guys use a Quaife diff.....kinda pricey though.

it would really be easier to turbocharge it than supercharge it....well, maybe, but I love that duratec engine, it was choice between the duratec and the SHO motor for my secret project, finally decided to go with the SHO motor though....twin turbo...mid engine FIERO! lol, its going to be hillarious, just waiting on my pistons from SHONut right now....but yeah, I vote for single or twin turbo...free power

My father had great results with merely a Superchip, K&N conical, and converting to single exhaust on his '99 Duratec Taurus. Never had a chance to dyno it, but it pulled away from the V8 SHO's on the highway and it also beat some yuppie in a Boxter up to about 60.

Vortec makes a kit for the 2.5l Contour/Cougar. I suppose this kit would fit the 3.0l Taurus, assuming the accessories are placed identically in the Taurus. But since the aftermarket is relatively weak for the Taurus/Sable, you'll run into some tuning issues. You will also run into transmission issues. Taurus/Sable transmissions are known to be weak and I doubt it would welcome the extra power provided by a supercharger.

Good luck with the project. The 3.0l is a great motor.

You are building a twin-turbo SHO motor? Are you fabbing everything up yourself? That would be interesting to see.

Yep, been taking measurments lately to make sure I can cram everything up into the Fiero's engine bay, and the project gets even more insane...this is going to be a high compression 10.5:1 boosted motor running 15psi or so(race gas and probably alcohol injection or some such) and 10psi on pump gas, It will be controlled by the same type of Standalone I have in my neon, since its not a daily driver I figured I would prove everyone wrong when they said you cant do high compression and boost, just make it a nasty car....15psi on race gas should net me 500+ HP.....my main problem is finding a tranny to hold it, I'm going to start out with the stock SHO tranny which I know will die at 300HP or so....might have to switch to a neon tranny later on, which seems to be about the only FWD tranny that I can find that has been consistently proven to hold 450+hp(maybe evo 8 rs tranny w/o x-fer case will work, I'll have to look into it, also heard GM is coming out with a new 6 speed FWD tranny torque rated for 300ft lbs, with a good clutch that should hold it)

Umm.. right..

But on a side note, turbocharging the 3.0 would be your best bet.

I had my tranny rebuilt at MadDog Transmissions in Tarpon Springs. They only do automatics but did a really good job on mine. If this sounds like it is for you, you should check them out.
