Default new to ford tech

hey guys, been reading in here for awhile, but this is my first post in here. Thought I'd say whats up. I come from the import side of things, which also is where most of my automotive knowledge came from. Ive owned a taurus, integra, and 240sx.

Ive always loved mustangs but stayed away from them, theres nothing that sounds like a mustang. I cant ignore it anymore. It might sound ricer to say I want a mustang for the sound but I dont care. I need that power/sound under me.

So basically, Im currently looking for a 96 - 98 cobra, black on black. My goals for it are pretty simple (I think) I just want to hang with the 03' and up's. Also I have a pretty vast knowledge of turbo systems and hope to one day throw a nice sized hairdryer on it. But for now I just need to secure a cobra.

One of the big reasons Im posting here is Im having a really hard time finding out the info I seek on mustangs. Import knowledge is much much easier for me to find, and Im not really getting discouraged so much as irritated. Also it seems like a lot of ford guys dont really know what they are talking about, not anyone from this forum specifically but other forums (ie; Mustangworld)

anyway, one question Ive been seeking results for is what will a 96 - 98 cobra with I/H/C/E and PI (iirc) heads put down. Its amazing how easy of a question I cant answer myself with plenty of search time. Also, Im a huge handling buff, coming from a 4 year life in NC its easy to see why, anyway its always been my understanding that comparitively, mustangs handle like balls. Whats the suspension aftermarket like for them?

you guys dont have to answer my questions so much as please please point me in the right direction, look forward to becoming an active member of ford tech, and someday a cobra to be reckoned with

also on a side note, I'd like to say that one of the reasons for the sway over from imports was torque's sig, after staring at it for awhile I decided to see how much they were running ($)

The Mustang aftermarket is huge (for both suspension and engine components).
for the 5.0 components, the 4.6 is coming along but no where near what the old 302's had available to them.
Steeda, Griggs are some good companies for handling components.

For good data you can check out www.hardcore50.com, very knowledgable people over there.
Wish I could help you with the numbers for the mods your seeking on the 4.6, not too familiar with what best works for them...
I'd assume that for what you're looking, and how aggressive of a cam profile you're looking how, worked the heads are, size of throttle body, etc you could probably expect a 70-100hp increase with what you're asking.. again, this is a best guess.

Depending on how radical you get with compression and camming, 300-400 rwhp is pretty easy. If money is at all something you're taking into consideration then you might want to look at getting a Mustang with a 5.0 in it. There is no other performance aftermarket bigger than the one for 5.0's. I learned everything that I know now about Mustangs from reading "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords" and 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords" magazines. Just pick those 2 up and read them from cover to cover and you'll learn everything you need to know. And a turbo is the only way to go if you really want to go fast. I have a stock motor in my car and when all is said an done it should be running mid to low 10's once I get the rest of the car setup to handle the insane amount of power I'm making. Good luck.
