Default Updating my '84..

Well I'm in the process of upgrading, and updating my '84 Fox. She was just a measly ole 3.8L V6 when I took possession of her. She was also sh1t brown, with matching sh1t brown interior!

I've acquired an '87 Cougar, as a donor car. It had the Sport Seats (GT), as well as the 302 (even though it was a Non HO, so what), and a few other misc parts I need to complete the swap (read: double hump x-member, wiring harness, ecu, etc).

I've already pulled the motor/tranny out of the Cougar. And already yanked the 3.8L setup out of my Fox. The car's interior has been yanked, and it's damn near a bare car right now.

I'm wanting to pick up an 8.8" rear end, and one of the OEM aluminum driveshafts. I'd really like to find a usable C4, as opposed to the stock AOD that was in the Cougar. There's also a few other items I'd like to acquire; non-defrost rear glass, black interior trim panels (save dash/console), heads, cam, and the norm...

Anyways, feel free to check out the link(s) in my signature to take a look at the progress of the build. I'd like to be able to acquire some more parts in the near future, and hopefully some of my fellow TR Ford Bretheren will be able to assist. The overall goal(s) of the project is to have a street worthy, track terror. I'd like to go faster than 11.49, and lift the fronts.

Any ideas, links, parts, etc - discuss away!! BTW - I used to be "1 Edm Svt" on here, but decided to finally change my name, as I've been MiDiablo for quite some time on most other forums and AIM.

351Coupe, I am interested. Does this include everything? As in a "drum to drum" setup? Or is it just the rear end pumpkin? I need a drum to drum setup, which is the only reason I ask. Because my car has a 22 year old 7.5" (for a sh1t V6) in it, and the donor car has an open end 7.5" with 2.73's in it (ghey). With pulling rear ends, I'd like to do it all at once, lol.

And by chance, do you have the driveshaft to match?? If not, I can acquire one elsewhere most likely.

I can send you the money via Money Order, or PayPal. And I would probably have to have someone from the Pinellas/Pasco area (friend or family to me) meet with you to pick it up, if that'd be cool with you??

Let me know, and thanks in advance dood.

Are you just swapping in that non-H.O. as it is without going through it first? If so, that's just a total waste of time and effort. The least you could do is swap in a decent H.O. cam that will work with the cast pistons that came in the non-H.O. motors. Maybe something similar to the B-303 as far as specifications are concerned. Install a new oil pump and screen (if the existing screen isn't clogged up. Do all new gaskets all the way around before dropping the motor in. Preventative maintainance will save you tons of potential headaches.

im with helmut %110 percent on this one. i had a e-303 with those cast pistons and stock 1.6 rockers. and there were just a few vavle kisses from the pistons.

i would also get a set of after market control arms from your rear.

you also need to snag the k-member out of you donor. i understand the 3.8 k memeber are different.

You only have to swap the k-member if the motor was originally an Inline six (1979 - 1982). Not the V-6.

Yes sir, that is fine (time and price are a thumbs up dood). I am in Chattanogga, TN right now. And having said that, I'll need to arrange a purchaser/deliverer from my friends or family (prolly my Daddy-O, lol)....

I'd like to grab the D/S also. Even if it's not true, maybe I can have it fixed, and replace the joints and get it in the car at least to drive on, until I can afford an upgrade!

Thanks dood!

Helmut/Rubber,

No way jose! I would never do such an injustice to myself, my vehicles, or the Ford badge! I'm on the same track(s) as you gentleman. Sorta.....

I am currently in TN, and live in FL. So I am finishing the car, before I trek home. However, I'm taking my time. No shortcuts at all costs. Money being the only problem unfortunately at this time.

The car is not an inline 6 originally, it is the 3.8L V6. I believe the K Members are the same, but will double check tomorrow.

The Non-HO is a pos 160K, oil leaking SOB. But for the price of $500 for a running, driving, titled car.. I couldn't pass it up. I got a full set of seats, a good tranny, and the 302 platform to work with. Of course I got the whole harness, ecu, and any other doo-dads that I need, just right outside the shop doors waiting for me to snatch it!! I'll then sell the donor car, with the 3.8L V6 in it, and the stock stuff from the 'Stanger. I'll try to get my $500 back out of it if at all possible!!

My plans for the motor itself, at this current time, are to rebuild the entire upper end. All gaskets from the heads up, and an oil pan gasket as well. A fresh oil change, new fluids, and she'll be a beastly 125 hp, to drive me home! The car is going to do 11.49 or better, and lift the fronts. That's the goals. Time wise, I cannot get that done while here (most likely). So I want to have the motor freshened up for the 10 hour drive home. Then when I get home, it'll get a complete rebuild. Prolly have it machined, and taken out to a 306. Then work on getting Heads, Cam, Intake, and Exhaust.

As for the rear ends doings.... I'm going to get the 8.8" from 351Coupe, drum to drum. That will solve my 7.5" headaches (I have two of them, the Stang's stock one, and the Cougar's). Before installing the rear end, I hope to be doing a full UPR rear suspension treatment. It'll receive the full on spherical bushing treatment, uppers, lowers, anti roll bar, the works. The car will see limited street action, save Saturday Nights!
