Default AOD help.....

Need some help guys.

I have a stock AOD, what is lockup and non lockup? Which is a stock aod? Can I run either type of converter? Will an AOD hold up behind a 351w better than a WC T5?

I personaly don't like AOD'S,too much shit to go wrong.Have you thought about a C4?If you want a stick I would do what Show50 did and get it built with tremec gears,or spend $1500 on a new one.LOL

I'm pretty sure a stock AOD is lockup.

On the mustangs the input shaft is 2 piece and weak. In OD the convertor locks up to eliminate slipping and what not. HP is very limited while in OD. Unless you spend the bucks for a Lentech AOD, or at least a tremec 3550 5spd you will kill either behind a 351w. Can it be done? yes, will it last? depends. On the cheap a c-4 will be longest lasting bang for the buck. An AOD with a good shift kit will also work but for how long?. T-5 can survive too. I say go cheap and use what you got until it breaks.

I ask because I need to get a higher stall converter for my aod. I will have to run the AOD until I can get my hands on a Tremec or TKO 500/600.

Years ago I had a 86 GT. It was stock with 3:55's and it killed 2 T-5's. I bucked up and got the WC T-5. 2.9? first gear ratio and it lasted about 1 year. T-5's can last if you are nice to them. I just don't drive nice. My AOD has a shift kit and a TCT 2,500 stall. It is on life support now and soon it will receive it's last rights. The AOD is behind a mild 302.
