Default octane rating and mpg...

Ok I just have your basic v6 mustang and dont really have a huge knowledge of cars but i want to learn.

Anyways I was wondering if running higher octane would have any effect other than a negligabe increase in performance, especially if there is any increase in mpg. Thanks for any help..

to much of an octane will actually hurt performance and the higher octane will burn faster. so just stick with either 87 or 89

The recommended fuel is regular unleaded. Dont pay $.20 more when you dont have too. Save it for a V8

It will only make your wallet lighter. Use the lowest octane that does not ping or detonate in your car.

Usually lower compression engines like 9:1 only need 87/89. If you are going to run a forced induction or nitrous, then you need 93 or better.
