Fast Fox body for cheap?
i dont have a personal experience with a 4 gen f body, but a third gen i do. it handled like a motherfucker compared to any mustang ive ever owned. the camaro felt real heavy though.
at 11 sec mustang really isnt that hard of a recipe. my 1986 coupe mustang ran 11.40's @ 116 with 4.30 gears running out about 1000'. video link
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D combo was 302, stock heads ported on exhaust side. motor sport e cam, victor jr carb intake, 650 holley, bbk longtubes, full exhaust system, nos big shot (175 pills), c4 with 8in converter and manual valve body. dont spend a penny on the motor until you put her on a diet. any q's or advice pm me.

Well it all depends on how much you're gonna spend on the car itself. You didn't specify if the 5 or 6 grand was in mods or includes the price of the car. You could get a stock Mustang for $2k thats beat up or can spend $12k like I did and get one that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Anyway, if you go the turbocharged route, if you have the skills, building your own turbo kit would be the way to go but if you're like me and can't weld then buying a nice kit like the HP kit I have will set you back $4k and includes everything you need to get the car running. My car will be running well into the 10's on the stock motor once I replace the T5 tranny I just broke with a TKO. 11's isn't that hard get, I went 12.40 with a 125 kit on a completely stock LX 5.0 10 years ago.
Cheap fast car:
89-93 5.0 5 speed, older than 89 is speed desity.
LX's are lighter than GT's
3.73 gear
subframe connectors
Pro 5.0 shifter
electric fan
cheap 10 hole rear wheels for slicks
MT 26x10 slicks
driveshaft safety loop
255 lph intank fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
C&L 76 mm Mass Air Sensor
Cold air induction kit
2 1/2" off road H-pipe
2 1/2" Flomaster catback
set timing to 10 on spray, 16 off spray
Remove smog pump and front sway bar(handles like ass but hooks better)
ZEX 125 hp nitrous kit (safest)
(this happens to be what my next daily driver will be once I find a car)
That should put you deep in the 11's as long as you can leave at 5000 rpm on the nitrous and dead hook on slicks and powershift.

full weight car ran 11.51@119 with above combo, very streetable since the stock cam was retained.
the commnet on the tranny, if you can shift it, its less likely it will break. I ran 2 years on a stock T5 with above combo and NEVER broke the trans.

shop the swap meets, corral, here, other websites for parts.
Her's what I have in mine so far
straight 89 coupe 200
fiberglass hood 100
running parts car 200 (pony's t5 engine harness
computer, etc)
TFS Heads from swapmeet 400
mildly hand ported
TFS Stage one cam 100
GT40P intake 150
sold T5 -400
T68 turbo (HOLSET) 450
C4 w/revmanvalve body,
new 3,800 stall 500
assorted small parts 300
tial wastegate 120
powerstroke intercooler 100
generic bov free
fab work for piping from 500
from a friend.
About 2720 total into it, it has a fairly nice paint job and nice (red) interior which I'll change later. Pony's look good on it!. If I ever get off my butt and get whatever else I need (fuel mgmt) and time to assemble it should do the trick. Just be patient and shop around the websites and swap meets and it's good to be friends with guys who race at the track or be willing to swap out labor with them.

Oh, and I've owned an LT1 Firehawk, An LS1 Trans Am, a nitrous H/C/I Sn95, and about 18 foxbodies, most of them built under 5,000. The fox bodies are a world apart to the bad in handling and creaks and groans, but they are also a world better in comfort, no blind spots, lighter to start with, cheaper and easier to modify in my book. Of the others, I actually went faster in my LT1 car than my LS1 car and it felt ballsier. (of course my LS1 was an auto) Also had about a million 67-91 camaro/z28/ta/vettes and still prefer the fox bodies for daily driven race cars.
