The programming is different and Ford has to keep the smog Nazis happy, too. In one of the Mustang magazines back in the late 90s there was a comparison of the Cobra, Exploroer, and GT-40 intakes. The Explorer flowed just slightly over the Cobra. Not enough to make or tell a difference. There is a bump in the upper portion of the GT-40 intake that can be hogged out, but not much can be done to the GT-40 upper due to it being so thin walled. The Cobra and the Explorers can be hogged out to surpass the GT-40 if done right. Extrude Honing was said to be the best method for these intakes in particular. Another bonus was NOT having the ACT sensor in the lower intake. Depending on the car's application, having the ACT creates a slight obstruction and/or turbulence in the #5 lower runner. If you come across one of these lowers your best bet is to relocate your ACT to the air inlet tubing before the throttle body. IST has the extension harness just for this application.

i always read that the truck motors and regular 5.0's had cast flat top pistons, making it impossible to run a large cam without changing the pistons.........
they also didn't have roller lifters correct?

Ok. So what about the tranny and rear end from a 2wd 5.0 explorer. Is the auto the same as a mustang automatic. I know the rear has a 3.73 gear in it do to a tow package that the vehicle came with.
I have a full drive train from a 99 5.0 explorer with 83k miles and I am not sure what i want to do with it.

Explorers use leaf spring suspension so the mounting points are all different. As mentioned, the 31-spline trac-lock carrier and 3.73s are all you can use. You'd have to buy 31-spline axles made for your year Mustang. I don't see a Mustang in your sig. Did you just buy one or did you get this stuff to make some $$$ off of?

I do not have this stuff to make money off but i would sell it if i cant use any of it.
I dont have a mustang. I am thinking about getting one and was wondering if i should look for one with out a motor and use the 5.0 from this 99 explorer i have. I wasnt sure if it was worth using or if it even bolts in.

You have some highly sought after parts there for those who are on a buget. I'd say that you're off to a great start if you keep them and find a Mustang rolling chassis withe an 8.8 and transmission of your choice.
