got a question
Yes but you do not need a lawyer to do that. I have been in front of old Judge Overton(sp) three times and had no lawyer with me. All 3 times I got away with just court costs. Take care of it in a timely manner and show some respect and you should not have any problems.

You don't know what you're talking about.
When you set a court date, you're setting a date for arraignment with a trial master. If you pleade not guilty, they set a trial date. The cop only has to show for the trial date. He isn't required to show up for the arraignment.
Beyond that, every jackass and their brother shows up in court with a sob story about how this wasn't their fault and it was an accident and blah blah blah. If you get it fixed and send a lawyer, it shows that you take the situation and your mistake with some level of seriousness. That perception is invaluable when trying to get the charges dismissed. Basicly, you don't look like a jackass trying to get out of the fine like everyone else in the room. I guarantee a higher rate of success with a lawyer vs doing it yourself. It's ALL perception.
I'll pay the 100.00 and court costs ANY day of the week over having points on my license. PERIOD. And I can save the classes for when I really screw up and can't get out of it.

Graves,
Every time I've gone in front of the judge myself, I've wound up paying the ticket and court costs. Every time I've sent a lawyer, it's been dismissed.
The 100 bucks I spend on the lawyer far outweigh the long term insurance increase.

I agree with you. None of my tickets were really major offences but the one for driving on a suspended drivers liscence I went my self the day after and paid all fines. Judge saw that and said he was throwing it out due to I took care of my old offese(didn't pay the late fee for school a year prior) and threw out the driving under suspended ticet for $80 court cost. I was scared shitless cause the kid in front of me was a 16 y/o who got a DUI while riding a motorcycle and ran from teh cops. I was liek great this guy is goign to tear me a new ass, turned out otherwise.

Oh yeah, AND... it's far more convenient to use a lawyer.
I call him and give him a heads up. Mail him the ticket and a check for $100. He sets the arraignment date and shows up in my place, calls me and lets me know what happened and mails me the paperwork.

just so everyone is aware...according to the law in every state in the country the only required instrument in your vehicle is an odometer, you are not required to have a speedometer at all, much less a working one, some judges will let people use the old " my speedometer doesnt work right" routine, but most say you should have fixed it of you knew it was wrong..lol...i speak about this from personal experience, ive had over 60 tickets in my days...its worth a shot at trying but not guaranteed

I have taken every ticket, approx. 6, to court including two accident ones that were my fault. I never once consulted a lawyer. For the speeding ticket ones I did not get ANYTHING because the cop never showed, Pasco is good about that. As far as the two accident tickets, one I just had to pay the $74 ticket and received no points on license, the other the fine was reduced from $74 to $50 and no points on my license. I effectively did the same thing you have done but over the course of my court experiences I have saved myself ~ $500.As far as the setting a date with a trial master thing, I don;t know anything about that. I tell the clerk at the traffic window when you go to pay your ticket that I plea not guilty and they give you a court date. In court everything is settled the first go around. I dont know what that trialmaster crap is about, but a trial master has the same powers as a judge so he should be able to settle everything right there.
