Default question about headers

i have an 02 gt... how much of a diferance would headers make on my car? i plan on doing headers with an o/r Xpipe and flowmaster mufflers then liek 2 3/4 out the back..do you think this is a good exaust combo.. sound and performance wise??

25 hp
quicker reving
2 1/4 " is sufficient. too large will hurt ya.
off-road h-pipe w/ out the cats will also gain hp.

you'll see a larger gain from long tubes vs. shorties. Basani makes a good mid length header..

stock size are shorties, then mid lenths and long tubes. long tubes will give you the best gains but are a pain in the ass to get on and one side has to be removed to pull the trans. i would go with a pro chamber and flowmaster cat back(which i have).

you can listen to most mustang exhausts at MUSTANGEXHUAST.COM

Headers are definately worth the buy. What you have already thought of putting together is a good exhaust setup, I'd go with that.

I have both shorties(FMS) and now have LT(BBK's). On the top end did pick up much over the shorties but did pick a noticable amount in the mid range. Longtubes suck for tranny removal cause you have to remove the passenger side header. I would recommend a mid lenght header(Bassani) with a 2 1/2" mid pipe. Don't got 2 1/4" cause that's what comes stock. Go bigger. Just don't get an x-pipe with any chambered muffler. Sounds nasty. If getting a x-pipe go with a straight through muff. H-pipe ofcourse loves chambers. -Mark

so you dont think x pipes with the flowmaters are a good route for a decent sound?? the blows i already have the mufflers and can get deals on everything i want to hear them all in person, its so hard to chose when you cant hear it!

a high flow cat x-pipe sounds good with flowmasters because it muffles the tinny sound, i would tend to agree with figment on the sound quality of an off road x-pipe on a mod motor with flowmasters, too obnoxious, i had 3 people in 1 week trade their x-pipes in and have h-pipes installed because they couldnt stand it anymore, as far as headers i would bother with shorties, the only shorty headers that actually pick up any power on a stockish type 4.6 are the BBK's, longtubes are good for power but like everyone said what a pain if u have clutch or tranny problems...etc...the bassani's are a nice choice for the midlength design although they arent cheap..if u give me a call at the shop tomorrow i can get you a price on teh bassanis, 727-571-1996
