Default overheating problems

Well my 88 has been overheating for quite some time now.I narrowed it down to fixing the thermostat.Well that was a 185 I believe and I still run hot, I replaced both heater core hoses in the firewall and still a nasty leak causing loss of pressure making steam which made my car heat up.

I finally saw a problem, a big one.I noticed a huge area on my firewall behind the intake that was bright construction sign orange.Coolant was all over it and from the looks of it, it had been spraying the firewall for a damn long time.
I see that it is my(I believe) EGR coolant line that runs through the TB and to the back into whereever, intake or otherwise.Well I found the slit in the hose and instead of replacing or sealing that leak somehow, I pulled the hose into 2 sections and then got 2 screws and sealed both open ends for now until I get enough time to yank the upper intake and get some light and room to work/replace that hose.

I cant possibly be leaking from there anymore(not that I know of anyway) and I cant figure out what else could be the problem..

Any reccomendations on which pressure cap I should use? I hear the rad cap can make a serious difference and I dont know if I am using the wrong one.

I usually sit at 210 degree's all day long, normal for my car and it runs good, as good as a mustang with 4 blown by oil soaked cylinders will run lol. I have had it as high as 250(as far as my autometer guage will go)

:o

please help me out if ya can

Chris

Well as far as I know, the headgaskets are ok, but I will check them some more for leaking etc, my fan is still the stock clutch fan and runs ok from what I see, but maybe it's slipping and not engaging as much as normal thus making less cfm's. I cant be sure on the radiator and the water passage is the same..

ehh, looks like I got a bit more looking to do right as it's overheating while I leave it running to see where it's pissing water.

Thanks for the help so far.

just hope your head hasn't warped. that is of course a worst case senario, but its a possiblility.

i dont know if its totally overheated once or a hundred times, but if it has, its worth doing a leakdown and compression test on it just to be sure

I just had to replace my water pump on my Mustang so it's probably that. You can tell if it's that if you got cooant leaking out from it or see lines.

Sorry I forgot to mention, yeah that's got about 1000 new miles now.I just replaced that bitch

The only visible high leak I saw before was the firewall.I think I am gonna pressure test my rad and see if I spring a leak somewhere , then try to hunt it down as best as I can. I have to put water in it almost like every 2-3 days.

What you may want to do is when its cold, fire it up, let it idle with the radiator cap off until you see the coolant moving fast (which shows the thermostat open) and check the water level then, its quite possible you have an air pocket somewhere.
It doesn't run at 230, it runs at 210.It has reached up to 250 before due to rapid water loss.

If there is an air pocket, how would I get rid of it? I understand without full pressure or an air pocket, I make steam and therfore cook water which drains the rad.

Youll have to burp the system of the air pocket, if it has one. Leave the cap off and let a run for a few minutes. If you see bubbles coming out of the rad. cap, you had a air bubble(s) in it.

Well if there is air in the system, how is my system overheating? Like how can the water drain? You saying it's making pressure due to steam therefore pushing it out my overflow?
