Original or Cool looking?
Hello guys, first if all, i am not new to the boards i have just lost my user name and password so i made a new account however it HAS been a long time.
Anyways lets cut to the chase... My grandpas shop recently bought a 93 mustang gt with a 5.0 HO engine in it. It is all original and we are currently restoring it. After we restore it i am planning on buying it off my grandpa. BUT, we dont know if we want to keep it original because it has a white exterior and, imho, i dont really like that color of white.
So the question is what is your opinion in the color of these vehicles, and how much would the stang depreciate in value if i were to change the color? Also, if we werent to keep it original what kind of mods (not engine yet were working on that later) to the looks of the car look good on it?
Thanks for the help/opinions it helps us out greatly!!

Definately keep it white so you can roll in your 5.0 with the ragtop down Vanilla Ice style.
Unless the car is low mileage in immaculate shape w/excellent paint and interior, I'd say don't bother worrying about a color change ruining the value of the car. Foxbodies aren't exactly collectors cars. The only instance where I could see repainting the car lowering the value is in rare circumstances where the car has very low mileage and looks/smells/feels like the day it rolled off the showroom floor.
BTW...welcome back.

Actually, the car is in terrible conditon atm. Were completely restoring it and its gonna take ALOT of work. Oh i wouldnt say this is low mileage but i guess its decent 68000 miles... I had the same thoughts exactly about the depreciation in value but my grandpa doesnt know much about it so hes thinkin to keep it original. anyways i wanted to paint it red cuz its got a black convertible top thatll go good with it.

Well since it is in fairly poor condition, I suggest ditching the GT ground effects in favor of Cobra pieces. The GT ground effects never really looked good on anything other than the hatchback. Plus the Cobra pieces look dead sexy on a vert IMO, and it only takes about 7 pieces to convert the GT to a Cobra (grill insert, rear bumper, and 4-pieces that eliminate the "brake ducts" on the GT effects).
