***UPDATE ON THE BOTTOM PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN ***

Well my friend and I picked up this ford festiva for 200 bucks.

The problem is we can start it but we can't keep it running. If I put gas in the carb and some starter spray then it will run for maybe 20 seconds at most. We got a new fuel pump but it still isn't working. I'm going to try some carb cleaner tomorrow but I figured I'd post up and see if you guys could help me. Thanks.

 

Sounds like a stuck float or a sticking needle and seat (dirt)

 

Someone else told me it was a stuck float as well and he said to tap the rim of the carburetor with a screwdriver to get it unstuck. I did this yesterday and it didn't work and I sprayed it down with carb cleaner and nothing happened.

Later I called the guy I bought it from and he said it might be clogged fuel jets. Does anyone know how to fix this? If not how much does it cost for a rebuilt kit and how hard is it to rebuild it?

 

I think the kit is around 25.00 and maybe about 2-3 cans of carb cleaner to spray into all the orfices. I would also call a carb place and see how much they charge. maybe under 100.00. My CJ7 was only 68.00 and was worth it since they dunk it and get rid of all that sludge and dirt.

UPDATE:
I had a mechanic look at it and he used a lot of carb cleaner and it still wouldnt keep running on its own. It would rev really high and then slowly wind down and then it would do a last jiggle of the car as if it was stalling.

Well the mechanic said I need a new carb but if I went to a junkyard the festiva I get it off probably would have sat for as long as the one I have so I imagine it wouldnt be any better.

The thing is he said they might not even have a rebuild kit for it, so does anyone know where I could find a rebuild kit for a ford festiva or a name of a carb shop that could rebuild it for me. I would rather have a carb shop rebuild it for me so if anyone knows a decent one can you please help me. Thanks.

Well could I take my carb that I have right now and clean it to get it working? If worse comes to worse I'll try the grenade thing
