Question Fuel Pump Info

MY FUEL PUMP JUST WENT OUT ON MY CAR LASTNIGHT.IT WAS THE STOCK ONE SO I FIGURED SINCE IT WENT OUT NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO PUT AN AFTERMARKET ONE IN. THE MECHANIC I TOWED MY CAR TO SAID DIFFERENTLY THOUGH. HE DOESNT ADVISE ME TO BUY ONE BECAUSE HE SAYS ITS UNRELIABLE.AND IF I DONT PLAN ON TURBOCHARGING OR SUPERCHARGING IT THEN ITS POINTLESS? ANYONE HAVE AN OPINION.

Your mechanic probably isn't well versed in performance parts. Get a 255 in tank and that should be fine for most mods you want to do under 450hp and will still be plenty reliable. For the price difference between a 155/190/255 go with the 255lph. It would be a waste to put a stock pump in there. Make sure you put a new filter in also.

I would figure no more than $250-$275 for the whole job including parts.

Here is an example for you.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

Nope it won't. Your injectors will only allow a certain amount of fuel by due to pulsewidth and pressure. The volume of the pump will not affect that and the pump does not flow so much that it will heat the fuel so there are no worries.

Also think about vehicles such as the ZO6 and 03-04 Cobras as they have a bigger fuel pump from the factory without driveability issues.

I personally put about 40,000 miles on my 87 LX with a 255 without any issues whatsoever.

Yeah, get the 255 but get the255 high volume pump. You won't have to change anything in your setup but you will be ready to go if you ever decide to step up the performance. No sense in just sticking a replacement stock pump in the tank.
