Default running Really rich

I pulled the heads on my 5.0 today due to a bent valve and brought them to my friends dads shop. He told me that just by the way the heads look thats my car was running extremely rich. Only air/fuel mods i have is fenderwell and ported e7s. Is there a way to set the computer to the stock setting or a way to manually tune it? I dont really have the $ to get it tuned at coastal or i would

I'm not sure what he is seeing that causes him to say that...maybe there's a lot of carbon buildup or something that he sees. Remember that you were running it with the MAF unplugged for a while and that one of the coils in it was broken for some time before that. The car may NOT be running rich now that you have replaced the MAF. Let me modify that statement a little bit...It may not be running as rich as it was. The stock settings themselves are pretty rich except for the idle settings. At any rate, he may just be seeing some residual carbon or whatever from that original episode. I'm not sure that the unplugged MAF would make it run rich or lean but would suspect that the EEC would know that the MAF signal was way out of whack and would discount it and go into limp mode which should be pretty rich to try to avoid further damage.

If you have an adjustable fuel regulator, there is a chance that it could be turned too high. If it is the stocker, then the MAF is the only thing I can think of...ummm, maybe a kinked fuel return line could cause a rich condition too.

Your right about the carbon. I had the heads pulled off about a month ago and i dont remember it being so damn black. The bores and the bottom of the valves where black with carbon. i dont know thats normal or not. Hmm stock regulator. by a kinked return fuel return line, do u mean the steel rail or the rubber hose it connects to?

Either one. If there's a restriction in the return, the fuel pressure will rise and there's nowhere else for the fuel to go except for thru the injectors. I would tend to believe though that it's just carbon buildup from the MAF fiasco.

True dat. If you need/want an adjustable regulator, I've got a Kirban that fits the stock rails that I don't need.
