Default 17s or 18s

i was at this place the other day looking at rims. Im not sure if i want to get 17s or 18s for my car. There was one 17 sitting on the floor...probably weighed about 15 lbs.Im thinking if i get 18s they wont be much more and will fill up more wheel well which then i wont have to drop the car right away... What do you guys think?

You will still have to drop the car with 18's since the outer diameter of the tire on a 17 or 18 should remain the same. With a car like the Focus, I think 18's are a bit overkill for a daily driver. The sidewall won't offer much protection to the rim if you hit a pothole, and we all know Tampa streets are pretty rough.

I'd stick with a nice 17" wheel. Still gives the car a really nice look (particularly lowered) yet it will keep its practicality as a daily driver. Just my .02

Alan makes some good points for the 17. Besides, I see used 17s for cheap and I can't remember the last time I saw a used 18 for sale? You know, if you need to replace one and your a little short that month.... Just a thought....

16's. lighter=faster.

15 lb 17x?????

The lightest 16x7's I know of weigh in at 13.56 lbs and are made of spun aluminum. I can't think of any cast wheel that would be anywhere near that especially in a 17.

I agree with you completely, but since he is thinking of 17 or 18" wheels I assume he is going more for looks over performance.

You can find some pretty light 17's though. Centerline makes a very nice looking 17" wheel for the Focus which is very light (I think under 16lbs). Looks just about perfect for the car.

Sean Hyland also has a 17" wheel that looks very nice on the Focus and is fairly inexpensive.

Almost forgot:

If you can find them, check out the Kosei K1's for the Focus. They look VERY nice and are lightweight yet strong. Cost is pretty low since I believe they are discontinuing this wheel. Check out www.tirerack.com .

17s, put 18s on a focus and it'll look like your riding on ferris wheels.

It actually looks pretty good (suprisingly) with 18"+ wheels. There was a guy on Focaljet with a sexy set of 19's on a Focus. Granted it was a show car, but damn did that thing look good. I just wouldn't take it out on the streets. One odd dip in the road and that uber expensive rim is toast.
