Default So I am getting a new Ford

Due to the fact that lease insurance blows major monkey nuts and the 15 mpg on my Ranger is killing my pocket book, I decided it was tiem to get a new car. So I am waiting to see which dealer has the Focus I want. I wanted the new 2.3 I-4, but there were no 2004 ZX3's available. So I am gettign a 2004 Yellow 2.0 Ztec 5 spd. I also ordered a few thigns out of the Ford Racing catalog to go with it. I got the lowering springs, adjustable cam gears, under drive pulley and CAI.

I know there are a few guys on here that have em so what are some otehr good ideas to get done to it?

Nope, not a SVT... but with a few hundred $ you get the same if not better performance while savign a few thousand dollars. I will say I wish it did come with the rear disc brakes like the SVT.

Why get the Zetec when you can get the 2.3l Duratec? Outclasses the old 2.0l in every possible way.

You can get rear disks if you get the traction/stability control package. But the traction control does not fully disengage, so you still lose power with it "off". Not worth the rear disks in my opinion.

Either way...nice choice. The more I drive the xB, the more I miss my old Focus. Even though it was a complete pile of shit when it comes to reliability, it was still a blast to drive. I have an off-road pipe that will fit the Zetec...adds quite a bit of power...if you are interested shoot me a PM sometime.

Yeah, the 2.3 is a great motor but they made it limited availability to certain states. The 2.0 Zetec isn't all that bad and with a few bolt ons can beat the famed "SVT" Focus. You have a MUCH better tranny coming than the getrag

Congrats.

Why Focus? There are so many other cars out there with better mpg/build quality/fit&finish/reliability, etc.

You can still get it for the '04 model ZX3/ZX5. I don't understand why they are dropping it in '05 and making it only optional in the 4-door "ST" model. My guess is they want to hype up the "ST" as the performance model, then re-introduce the 2.3l to all the models. Now the base model is some kind of 2.0l Duratec instead of Zetec. Wondering exactly what the difference is between it two, if any. If it is a true Duratec motor, it should have an aluminum block. If so, I guess that would be cool.

Just blows my fucking mind how they introduce the 2.3l for the ZX3, now take it away. At least the SPI is finally gone.

coulda traded your Ranger for another one with the 2.3 duratec. but if you already got focus parts, i guess theres no use in that. for the record my 3.0 gets 20/24mpg
