Default Runs cold ...

My car has always run cool, ever since I bought the car ...

The car never makes it past around 155 degrees .. I never really thought much about it, the cooler the better right? Well, I've started to realize this could be a big reason for my car running so rich (10.2:1) .. do you think running this cool could actually be hurting me? Just curious before I go through the bother of replacing the tstat with a 180.

Its either now thremo or a 160 in it. I can make mine run where ever I want it with the right thremo in it. I always ran fastest on the 160, but it never gets out of choke mode, so the gas milage sucks.

im running a 160 stat with a new 3row, with a electric fan, its running 160-180 its right at 17mpg, i would much rather run it cool, less heat anytime for me., my trans am ran much better with a 160 stat., i never noticed any change in mpg, but seemed to run better.,i have heard many people that want to run the 180, the stat that was in the car was a 195, it ran to hot for me, and i would swear it seemed sluggish when it was up their....

usually if you have no stat.. the car will actually tend to run warmer. Because the coolant is flowing to fast to let heat transfer... I have owned 4 diff mustangs ( all 5.0s) and never had 1 run cooler than 170... I like the 180* stat (lets the car warm up quicker)...

"Horsepower makes Heat".... thats your problem Vinny time to mod that fucker... :lo: you dont have enough HP to make it run warm enough...

Cody you are correct but, I have had a friend where there was no thermostat and his car wouldnt go past 155.Only when he beat the living shit out of his car it would go to 200+.

Now as for the being to cold post and the being too rich post.If your head intake and block do not meet a certain tempature then the combution chamber will actually not fire the fuel as fast as needed to.Fuel (gasoline) has different flash points and when spark is mixed with heat it will reach its flashpoint and BOOM you have power. If your car was sitting at 160 or lower it seems to just be using fuel and igniting some of it that pass's because the motor is not at rec. temp.

To me when the 5.0 motor runs about 190f with thermostat open that is more effective and has the most power at that temp.

Hope this makes a little sense
