Question Mustang Trany Help???

ok guys this is getting annoying I think it is my trans. but when I get to about 75 or not even that just shifting normal and cruising in 5th gear there is this loud winding sound and i mean it's loud. I am pretty sure that it is the trans., when i take my foot off the gas and it's winding down to a slower speed it makes the same sound. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I have 4.10 gears in the back and a steeda tri-ax. A friend of mine told me that the steeda tri-ax makes a winding sound but I mean i wouldn't think it should be this loud. Does this sound like anything you all ever had? if you need me to clarify something let me know thanks for any help.

Is it speed related or is just 5th gear? The driveshaft is usally the more likely of the 2 to just up and fail on you. If you have a spare one or know someone who would let you use their's for a quick drive then use it and see if it goes away.

I have a spare driveshaft that may work. It came off of my 95 GT - I think they are the same...not sure. I'm not using it if you want to try that out, PM me and you can have it.

You really need to figure out if its coming from the back, or the tranny. Gears installed wrong make alot of noice. And when you jossle the throttle, for a split second noise goes away while the gear pics up the slack.

Hell man check to see whoever installed your gears put the right gear lube back there, or even put some in. If you don't put the right lube in....... you will have serious issues

You know, I had the same problem in my '94 GT. At highway cruising speeds I would hear something making a rattling/whining noise coming from my transmission, but only if it was in 5th gear. When I slowed down it would quiet down and eventally go away and not come back unless I had it in 5th and going over 65 or so. I later grenaded that transmission so I never got to see what it could have been seeing as all that was left was 4th gear.

yea i am thinking it got to be the trany. b/c my friend paul who had a 01 cobra was with me last night and was asking what that noise was, and he said it's comeing from that trans. It is possible to be the gears but i mean I have had them in for almost 6 - 7 months and i don't remember hearing it. Anyone know where i can get a T-45 rebuild kit? I know they sell a T-5 but ford told me I have a T-45 and it would be chaeper to rebuild instead of finding a new one?
