BINGO!!!!

Dr. Dirt has hit this one on the head. If your friend has no experience here, this will get you the win without just normal driving and nothing more.

PS. When my combo was stock, I let the clutch out on the second yellow!!! Try the last one first and if you have a long reaction time, go for the second!

i would roll out of the hole softly and avoid spinning at all costs.... being new to the track i bet you'll spin pretty bad, and coming out slow will actually help your et more than spinning all 3 gears.....

Depending on what track your going to will determine your launch. If your at lakeland your not going to want to launch much above 2,000rpms. If your at sunshine then you can launch a little higher.

One thing I see a lot of people doing is shifting their cars at say 6,000rpms in a stock 5.0. Do not take the car much above 5,000rpms because after that it's only hurting you.

Since I'm assuming that your new to driving a 5spd as well, don't try powershifting until you get a little more expierience under your belt.

Don't set your expectations too high because you will probably be disapointed, nothing better than 9.5 with a good launch should be expected, good luck!

let out some air pressure at the track for your back tires. then up the pressure in your fronts to max. less rolling resistance, physics 101. depending on the tires really depends on how much pressure you might want to run. with your 17's, maybe 17 psi would be good. anyone else think otherwise?
I do. Don't take this the wrong way. I don't understand the mentality of individuals running big rims and wide tires that, in general, are thin (Cobra R rims and similar). It's hard to get traction with those things. Yea, you may do better with 17 inch drag radials, but one can accomplish more traction with less rim and more tire (like a 15 inch Draglite with a 245/60 tire on it). Letting air out of regular radial tires won't help. They do not have a sidewall that wrinkles like drag radials or real slicks do. Letting air out of a regular radial tire is asking for trouble. The rearend at the big end will or may get unstable and can cause the car to lose control.

Drew, congrats on your car and yes take it to the track, but do us a favor don't get stupid with it and start street racing. My insurance rate is high enough as it is for my '88 GT. I didn't get my Mustang until I was 21 and having moved down here from Fayetteville, NC my insurance here was almost triple what I paid for in NC. Be safe. BTW, your car will only be faster with me driving it.
