okay, that was a great read... so lets pretend i'll be running a 220hp 2.0L engine that revs to 9000rpms with say a 100-200shot on top of that. and i'm converting to RWD... what kind of trans would be my best bet? what trans is in the GT?
~Tim

ps. this is a personal thing i want to do... so don't bother with the "why?" we all know how much better RWD is compaired to front. marco... don't worry.

Yes the 3550 came in newer gt's and is in new mach 1's. I'm not sure at which point they went from t-45s to 3550's though.

I think you will find even a 3550 is not going to be a bullet proof tranny, even for your application.

No, the 3550 does not come in GT's or Mach 1's. There are 4 basic variants of this transmission. Standard, Standard II, TKO, TKO II. The TKO versions can handle more torque. The II versions have a non-overdrive 5th gear (.68 instead of .82). This is all really moot now as the 3550 series has been discontinued. It has been replaced by the TKO 500 and TKO 600. The 500 is only available with 3.27 1st and a .68 5th gear. The 600 is available with a 2.87 1st and either .82 or .64 5th gear.

The 3650 comes in the mid 01+ (i think.. may have been 00) GT's and 99-01 cobra's and mach 1's. The 3650 has an integral bellhousing that fits the modular motors.

The T45 was available in 4.6L GT's up until mid 01 and cobras through 98.

Since you will be spinning 9000 RPM's I would reccomment a TKO.

okay, lets say i have the car tuned in to be shifted around 8000rpms. if it is possible that the T5's bell housing pattern is the same, what could i do to the T5 to make it hold around 300ft lbs, and 8000rpm shifts? is there components inside i could switch out?
~Tim

EDIT* also, what do the 2.3 turbo and mustang guys do with there T5s? i'm pretty sure it's easy to get a mustang to put out 300ftlbs, or a very boosted 2.3... ?
