Well the block alone is $2100.The machine work will be around $800 plus tax and shipping right around three grand. And then there's the rotating assembally and ballance, depends on how fast you want to go!

The Race Pages has a little article in the back of the April 04 issue about aftermarket blocks. According to the info, "FRPP blocks come fully machined and require only minor honing to achieve proper clearancing in several areas of the engine."

Brandon Ford quoted me $850 on the Sportsman block. Sounds like a great deal, if the 450 rating is set aside. I saw the R302 for $1599 from Keith Craft.

Comparitively, the Dart blocks look to start in the $1800 range. Of course, FRPP makes even higher rated blocks, but $$$$.

The Sportsman block seems like a good deal for a street motor. I've hit 379 on Sam's dyno, so I am working over the stock block figures as well. Like Scott says, RPM plays a major role in the longevity of the block.

You got to budget, research, and plan to buy it over time. I won't put this stuff on credit, I just save my pennies. I've been talking about a transmission for a year. Finally got one. The block and rotating assembly will be another year away, then some heads and an intake. It'll take three or four years, but it will be worth it.
