Default Getting gears installed...

Hi guys,
I am going to buy either 3.73, 3.90, or 4.10 gears in the next few weeks, my question is, where is the best place to get them installed at a reasonable price?

I also want to do a chip at this time to correct the speedo and get my check engine light to turn off. How much do you guys think it will be to have this all installed? How about a dyno tune also for the new chip?

Thanks
-David

Fordspeed for the gears. I have had Joe and Robby do all of mine on every car I've had. I've never had a problem with any noise or wear at all.

As for the chip, I just got a speedcal for the speedometer and 02 SIM's for the CE light. In my opinion chips are overrated for Mustangs. They help the boosted cars quite a bit, but for an N/A car it's a waste of money.

It was my understanding from reading various Mustang boards that the speedo gear replacement only worked up until the 98 model. Everything after needed a speedcal or a chip to correct it.

Gonna have to disagree, Sam at Coastal installed my gears and burned a chip for my car and if you look at the overall cost its ridiculous not to go with a chip. A Speedcal is 99 bucks and 02 sims are like 25. My chip was 350 including dyno time and installation. If you figure it up 100 + 25 + 50 for dyno time, my chip basically cost me 175 dollars. Plus I picked up 7 RWHP at peak and as much as 15 at lower RPMs on my N/A GT with only exhaust mods. Show me that kind of power for that cheap on anything else you can do to a N/A car. Plus the ability to reburn the chip for 50 bucks if and when i put on a blower. I think its a no brainer.

To me 7 rwhp for $350 just isn't worth it. That's why I said it's "my opinion".

I can think of many other things I would spend $350 on before using it for a chip.

I'm not saying chips aren't worth the money on other cars, but to me an N/A bolt on only car isn't going to gain that much from the chip. I guess if you look into how much the speedcal and the sims are, it's a little cheaper, but I still wouldn't spend $175 on 7 rwhp.

I don't even run sims on my car, I'll just leave the CE light on until it burns out.

On the flip side, would you ever put a catback on a N/A car? $350-$500 for MAYBE 7-10 hp. The chip is the way to go IMHO because very few people will either a) leave the car to just basic boltons or b)never get a power adder. (a flip chip with N2O is nice). For the cheap price of a reburn it is a good investment if you go to the right shops.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

Nope, I just put an O/R Pipe and weld in mufflers for a total of $175 (used H-pipe).

I agree if you're going power adder Steve, I was just saying if he's not planning on doing many serious mods, I see no need for it. Kind of like how people go out and put big throttle bodies and bigger injectors on stock motors, makes no sense to me.
