Default Gear reduction starter for a 5.0

My friend Tim bought a gear reduction cobra starter for his FHP mustang. There's a solenoid on the starter. Does anyone know of a decent way to wire it besides running a switch? we tried just using a jumper wire on the starter solenoid and using the stock firewall one, but the starter kept running too long. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

All you need to do is take the large wire that runs from your starter up to the switched side of the solenoid on the fender and move it over so it has constant battery power. Then run the small wire from the solenoid on the starter to the large pole that you took the other wire off from.

Sounds like the solenoid is going bad if only 4 volts is present at the terminal.

Well we replaced the ingnition relay and it's still only getting 4 or so volts at the starter solenoid. There's got to be a short somewhere is all we can think of

It has 12+ volts everywhere else but that ignition wire. Highly doubt it's the battery It starts the car fine with the key on and jumping the wire straight to the battery, but for some reason we are losing voltage from the ignition to the solenoid
