7.5 or 8.8 rear end?
Hi, I actually have a old RWD corolla, but I need to find a replacement rear end because the stock one is open diff and just is not beefy enough for my plans...
Heres what I want:
good LSD (It's a drift car)
Disk brakes
power handling for at least 250HP (maybe someday
)
I realize this isn't a bolt on deal... I would just go 8.8, but I'd like to keep it as light weight as possible (my car weights 2200lbs), would the 7.5 deliver or should a get a 8.8? (my stock is a 6.7)
Also I have no clue about domestic lsd's, what is the best for the track? 2 way?
Thanks,
Jeff

I should have a 7.5 forsale here soon. Im swaping to a 8.8 so I wont need the 7.5. Stock V6 7.5 rears have a 2.73 gearset and have no LSD in them. They can be bought just like anyother 8.8 rear LSD just obviously smaller.

the 7.5" would work fine. An 8.8 would be the best though. There is a lot more available for it, and a nicely done 8.8 will handle over 800+ hp
Both came with rear disc depending what car you take it out. Fox body mustang 8.8s are rear drums and are a clutch type LSD. It works well and the diff only costs $35 to rebuild.

you could find one from a ranger. some of them came stock with 4.10s. the 4.0s had 8.8s, with the FX4s and Explorers being 31 spline axles.

Ok, So I could I run a 94 or newer mustang 7.5 rear (with disk brakes) with a 3rd member from a ranger with 4.10 gearing?
whats the weight difference between the 7.5 and the 8.8 anyway?
Thanks,
Jeff

You could also buy a 4.10 or 3.73 gear for the 7.5 rear. Im not sure of the price thought. Its not the 7.5 housing thats worth much, its the 5lug axles and rear disk brakes that people want for the 5lug conversion.
