Default 14 sec n/a Escort :p

I thought this was pretty impressive for just some top end work done
2nd gen with the 1.8 BP motor in it. Has a PnP, cams, etc. no bottom end work done though. Ran a 14.01 if you can't see it in the video below

If that is impressive in the all motor escort world then the future for that make performance wise is looking damn grim. Sorry, but if that is in any way shape or form a measuring stick or a goal for any escort owner, then they really do need to buy something more capable.

That scort probably weighed around 2500lbs and only trapped 95, which leads me to believe it only had about 170-180whp, and for pnp and cams ... that is horrible.

*I'm not trying to be a dick, just being honest.

That's the miata motor, there's alot more potential . PS there are no 13 sec n/a escorts running around currently known. The reason? Fast and furious kids with nawwsss and turbos got them all caught up hehe. I wouldn't mind being the first in a 3rd gen to break into the 13's n/a in full trim, wouldn't mind being the first 3rd gen to break into the 11's in full trim with a custom turbo setup and built motor either haha..

Another thing to consider is 127or so crank horses factory on that miata motor there. probably 105-110 ish on the ground so 60-70 whp from a mild pnp job and cams doesn't seem half bad to me.

My car only puts out 110 crank horsepower and 132 ft lbs of torque factory. As the dyno proved haha at 88whp and 110ft lbs of torque with an automatic in it. I should run low 16's high 15's in my car with an intake tube and header to stock exhaust. My car weighs in at 2400 at the moment. Using my 1/8th mile times/mph I can calculate like 124whp with just very minor mods. These cars have just not been looked into enough is all. I mean look at the 2.3 really. When it came out it was a big POS with no power and not much more torque. With alot of support that motor flew. Problem is the 1.9's, SPI 2.0's, that are in the escorts, and the SPI 2.0's in the focii just aren't supported and toyed with a whole lot.

Ponders why they are not messing with them . . . . . .

I dunno . I conjured up a little mod with a switch and a ground wire that ups the take off torque dramatically by opening the secondaries on the IMRC instantly when you flip the switch, instead of waiting 6 seconds after WOT for them to open heeh. Dropped my 60 ft times .2 . I posted up a how-to so all the escort kids on their forums could do it to. Hoping maybe by me doing this little mod it sparks interest for other people to think of things. There's a couple of companies that tried marketing parts for these motors, but they charged outrageous prices and failed horribly. You cannot charge someone $400 for a cam grind using YOUR cam Or $300 for a 55mm aftermarket throttle body vs the 44mm stock one. If those companies would have charged reasonable prices the aftermarket would have boomed. I mean the only company out right now that I know of that makes intake tubes for these cars that the kids all seem to like is out of Canada. They charge an arm and a leg for one and it don't even fit up right How do I know? I bought one used, it's a POS and 3" as if my car really needs a 3" intake tube.

The people that do have the money to do anything would much rather swap in a used GTX or GTR motor from Japan for around $3,000 instead of building up the motors they already have. Oh well I have an engine in my room being built up myself, we'll see what happens

Pretty impressive for the lack of work done to the car. Some of these "haters" fail to realize the Escort is a 16-17second car in stock trim. For a couple grand this guy dropped 2-3 seconds off his e.t., and he hasn't really even dug into the motor.

No one really messes with the SPI motor in the Focus because the 2.0l DOHC Zetec had much more aftermarket support. I think the SPI is actually being dropped from the Focus line all together. The old 2.0l DOHC Zetec motor is supposed to be the base motor with the new 2.3l Duratec being the upgrade motor in the "higher end" models.

So I guess I'm a hater for sharing my opinion.

He really hasn't even dug into the motor? The heads have been off and been port and polished and he changed cams, if that isn't digging into the motor, I don't know what is.

It's a lot easier to get that et faster when your already so slow.

I didn't mean to say that you were a hater...just figured there would be a lot of the usual negative/derrogatory "anti-Escort" posts in here.

Head/cam swaps aren't all that difficult on the Ford OHC 4-bangers. Start to finish we had my cams on and off on the Focus with correct timing and everything in well under an hour. Yanking the head is another 2-hours at most as long as you know what you are doing. Technically I guess it is digging into the motor, but head and cam swaps are so simple that I almost consider it a basic bolt on.
