DSS, Coast High Performance, or...
Any recomendations for an all forged stroker kit. I'm looking for a low compression (8.5/1) 331 all forged kit. DSS and CHP both look like good quality. Anyone deal with those companies? Any other names?

I had a Powered by Ford forged internal block in my SN-95. They are located in Orlando I think or close so it could save you some money on shipping. Otherwise I've heard good and bad about DSS, but only good things about CHP.

Sorry, I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached.
I just bought a 347 stroker kit from TMD(Ebay). It had Probe Forged rods and pistons. A cast crank, chrome moly rings, and King main and rod bearings for $1000. I think they have a kit with a forged crank for like $1300. I put another $1000 in the machine work on my block and then putting it together. Not sure what the costs are and what the warranty is on the package deal, but I hope that the figures help with ideas.
I can't tell you anything bad yet, because I've only got about 600 miles on the bottom end.

I have always wanted a DSS short block (for like 10 years now
) and have done a lot of research and everything has always come back good until lately. I have noticed a lot of DSS shortblocks for sale in the various Ford sites classified sections.
As a matter a fact I was looking at one last night and found a ad on Corral for a DSS 347. The ad said it had two new rods and pistons in the shortblock. Which tells me two broke.
Don't know what to tell you for sure. I do not think Powered By Ford in Orlando does much anymore.

I had a CHP/Probe forged kit in my car. No problems with the parts, but had a bearing failure causing all sorts of havoc, but not related to the quality of their parts. Good quality stuff though. If you know anyone that wants a 377 kit (with 10 pistons). I'm selling mine, again all forged.. $1500.

Well the big thing is are you looking for just a kit or do you really want an assembled shortblock?
If kit only then shop around as places like JD's Performance and ProPower have some really good deals on quality stuff.
If you are actually gonna just buy a shortblock then there are places like Bennet or Keith Craft that have good quality. Are you going with a stock block? If so then most of the kits out there will outlive the block.
I haven't seen any reviews but you may want to check this out too

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

I'm going to put it together myself after getting the block worked. For now it's going to be a stock block, but I am including a main girdle in the budget.
I'm suprised to hear the news about DSS. I had always heard good things about them, but will obviously need to check them out more closely.
I hadn't thought about JD's in Orlando, so I will give them a call as well.
Thanks for the tips on the X2C motors. Those are some interesting prices for assembled blocks.
