Default removing egr

I should be putting the new engine in the car sometime in the next 2 weekends, so i'm trying to get as much cleaned/modded as possible before doing the swap. I searched through a couple different forums and didnt really find a good answer, so here is the question:

Are there any cons to pulling off the EGR valve and capping all of the lines?

I know that it will help keep hot exhaust gasses from getting into the intake, as well as keep things a little cleaner. I can also fab up and powder coat a peice of aluminum to cover the hole on the upper intake and keep it matching to my color scheme. Am i going to hurt anything by pulling this off?

All I did was cut the tube and block it off on both ends. It didn't hurt my car a bit driveability wise, but that was on my 5.0. I'm not sure what car you're doing this on so I don't want to tell you it won't bother it unless it's on the 5.0. I would say it won't on either car though.

The only con that comes to mind is that it may throw a check engine light on the OBDII cars.

Almost forgot to mention that removing the EGR will fail your car come time for emissions. I know you don't live in FL, so you may want to check into that with other local Mustang folk.

right now, although memphis requires emissions testing, the outlying county does not, and my car is registered in the county. i may run it through just for the sake of trying, as i am curious of the before-after effects of the new motor.

I should have been more specific. Removing the EGR will fail you on the visual inspection, not the actual sniffer test.

gotcha. here in memphis we dont really have a visual. they just check for smoke (by making you rev the hell out of your motor) and check the emissions.
