c4 tranny
Hi guys well my car is a 87 with the aod 5.0 now someone told me that i can have the c4 tranny put in he said it is eazy and simple but i might have to modify the trany lines a lil like the tranny fluid ones i mean i dont know bout the drive shaft, anyone done this mod yet i just want to know wha tkind of converter will i use n what i need to do n plus is it good for long trips like here to frladurdale n back thanks??????????? guys
Long trips? Um, no, not if you plan on driving over 60 for long periods of time!
I'm putting one in mine, but it's a toy, not something that will be driven much further than BMP. From what I understand you have to move the crossmember, but the driveshaft should be the same.

first a question or two to answer your questions.
what do you plan on doing with the car (street/strip, etc)
how agressive are you going to be with it, etc.
you can use a normal driveshaft (just check the splines on the c-4)
And CopMagnetLS1 is correct, you have to cut the welds on the crossmember, adjust it so that you can put the trans where you want it, then re-weld.
I wouldn't put a c-4 in the car unless you were going to get serious about racing a little more. I'd keep the AOD with a kit, or for that matter if you start getting into racing, you can get Joe's from him @ Fordspeed, which was a Lentech.

i have a c4 in my mustang...its got an 10" or 11" converter(i forget lol), reverse manual vb, and a buncha other BS...the car is very fun to go from a dig, but with the converter i have and lack of any serious bolt ons, from a low roll, the converter flashes all the way to 3800 and then waits to catch it lol. its not that bad, i have a 410 gear in mine, so i suffer from terrible gas mileage. its all in what u want tho like everyone sed, if u dont mind driving under 60mph EVERYWHERE, ur fine.
otherwise...swap it over to 5spd...ur gonna pay close to a grand for a GOOD C4...and i believe steve(Race495) was selling a full 5 spd conversion for $1000, so u might wanna think bout that.

though for me, you'd have to change it to 10 inches, and you'd have to change inches to millimeters, and you'd have to change 10 to 5 and you'd have to change dick to poor excuse for one.

My AOD B&M shift kit was garbage. Get a high quality AOD from Performance Automatics (PA). If you are dead set on keeping an automatic and do highway driving...this is probably the only option for you.
Just out of curiosity, why not go with a manual conversion? You can source all the parts for about the same cost as a nicely equipped PA AOD tranny.
