02-2-2 FEB 02 Intake Manifold - Cross-Over Channel Coolant Seepage

i have a 99 motor in my 98 that is leaking (seeping) coolant at the thermostat housing (not a gasket issue). any ideas?

I know there is a recall as my patrol car is a 1999 and it blew coolant out from the thermostat housing during a pursuit. Took it to ford and had it back within a few days. They said it was a common problem with them. Car has 67k miles on it too.

I would be surprised if they did anything since it is not in a 99 model car though.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

my new 17k old motor is doing the same thing... it is like the housing is too small........

i have to run a bunch of RTV to stop it..... its in the front lip, it just looks like it needs to be about an 1/8th inch longer........

This is a very common problem with pre 2002 GT's. The plastic cross-over for the coolant will crack and cause the leak. If you replace the intake with a stock intake make sure and get one for a 2002 or newer GT(these intakes wont work if you are using non-p.i. heads) so you dont have the problem again since they use an aluminum cross-over.

Give me your VIN and I'll tell you tomorrow if you have a re-call or not. I'll just punch it in to OASIS at work.

You will be able to use the redesigned intake or you could use a bulllit intake, or an aftermarket intake if you want to spend extra.

that would be great, but the engine is a 99 and the car is a 98.

on a better note, i found a "used" engine from a car manufactured 10/2001, that has been sitting at the "recycler" since 11/2001 (has approx 40 miles on it). Apparantly the dash caught fire, caused some wires in the engine compartment to overheat, melting some of the tape to a valve cover. "Light fire damage" to the wiring harness, but nothing else. So i'm getting it with a 1 year warranty for $897. I am using the 98 ignition/fuel supply so i dont really need the harness.

I'd still like to get a hold of a newer intake so i can drop that engine into the 88.
