Default bad IAC or bad MAF

i own an 01 lightning, yesterday i cleaned the the air filter and started it without the filter...died. pulled the IAC off today cleaned it with card cleaner. did the same thing died. truck will not truck without air filter or rubber hose coming from airbox. if you put the filter in and start it, it is fine. it should run without it so im thinking bad IAC even though i cleaned it maybe it is just bad because it is alittle dirty..if you guys have any ideas let me know thanks- Scott

dumb question but is the MAF harness plugged in?

that would cause the condition you describe. Try checking the connections on the wires.

Why would you run the truck without the filter on? Stock or aftermarket maf? Some mafs have problems recognizing airflow without a filter.....if it runs fine with the filter in - I wouldn't worry about it.

alot of times if you take the air filter off the maf sees alot of turbulant air flow from the fan and whatnot, this usually causes a car to stall. the maf needs to be able to accuratly read the amount of air flow.

i second this whoely. especially if the MAF points towards the radiator area and the fan blows in temperate air. the trubulence alone will F it up
