10w40 in the Cobra?

10w40 in the Cobra?

It's already time for and oil change and I have some 10w40 in the garage, would it be ok for the cobra?? I dont know what weight you guys use or whats reccomended.

I use 10w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic and it takes 6 quarts. I use a little more than 6 quarts though. These 4v heads hold a lot of oil.

I use 5w30 syn oil which is what Ford recommends for the 4.6. I think the mod motor needs a thinner oil due to the less tolerances. I use about 6 1/2 quarts. -Mark

Oops. I had a total brain fart. I use 5w30, not 10w30.

i have some oil at my house if u need it my dad had some left over from his harley its staright 50 weight it has to be better

You can use 10-40 it is a little cold for that though, i use 10- 30 it takes 6 quarts, i think ford recomends 5-30 for that car

i wouldnt use 10w40, use 5-30

as bitemark stated you do not want to use a heavy weight oil due to the fact that newer engines have much tighter tolerances then your older engines do

Use 10w30. Ford changed to 5w30 becuase it helps with cold emmisions (it's just to thin in my opinion). Just like they changed the rears from 75w90 to 75w140. All the same parts for both but it last longer since people are bad about maintance. Go figure. Although the heavier gear oil has more drag.
