Default Affects of removing EGR?

Does anyone know what would happen if I were to plug off the EGR valve on my Escort? I know it would run a little leaner, which isn't a bad thing anyways since stock it runs rich. But Anyways, I'm putting on a header and there's no port for an EGR valve on the header. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I took mine off. Benefits would include no hot exhaust gasses deposited into your intake manifold and reduced carbon deposits in the intake manifold. Since the EGR does close under full throttle the fuel curve will remain unchanged under full throttle. Although I doubt even under partial throttle the car would run lean without the EGR...the only adjustment the ECU would make is turning on the check engine light.

Unfortunately it does. I think the majority of newer Ford motor's have the EGR system.

poopy, my EGR will be coming out tomorrow when I put my "header" on . Which is actually an Escort GT Manifold, but it's long tube style just like an aftermarket header. I did a little porting and sandblasting/polishing to get rid of the shotty factory craftmanship and I bet it will work till I get my other motor done!

I had like 3 of those old EGT headers at one time. Pretty decent for stock. Also, your gas mileage may go down a slight bit with the EGR plugged (it did on my SHO).
