Default Stupid Question

Any negative effects from painting an aluminum intake manifold with satin black high-temp engine enamel? My used Ford Racing manifold looks like pure ass, and I'd like to give it a quick shot of paint prior to install.

Painting it should be fine. The only derogatory effects I could think of is possibly the paint, in too thick of a coat, could retain SOME heat. But I don't see that happening.

It's probably going to get nicked and scratched on its way into its new home so I would just spend 40 bucks for a powdercoat job. JMHO.

It should be fine, though you may want to sand blast it first so you have a good surface.

I would sand blast if first and then get it themalcoated.
I did and mine (about 5 yrs ago). Still looks great and every thing just wipes off.
Note : I smoothed mine by hand w/ a drill and many wheels later! What a pain in the ass. Not recommended unless you have absolutely nothing better to do!

The main issue I have with thermal or powder coating is this thing isn't completely metal. Previous owner used JB Weld on the vacuum fittings instead of purchasing the proper threaded fittings. It is absolutely fine function-wise, but asthetically looks like trash.

Unfortunately thermal or powder coating will probably not stick to the JB Weld, and subsequently look like ass. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to do it, but prepping the manifold properly would involve alot of money removing the JB Welded fittings and redrilling/threading the holes. I know I know...I should fix it, but nothing is hindering the performance of the manifold, I am out of money, and I need to get these parts out of my living room and onto my car.

Thanks for the info guys and gals.

I know that feeling!

I'm not sure what the coating will/won't stick to, but at this point I would just sandblast and paint then.

Who could do a good sandblasting job inexpensively? Would setting my manifold out on the beach on a windy day do the trick?
