Budget TT setup.
I pretty much copied what MM&FF did to my own 92 GT back in 1999. Here's a link,

Anyway... I started off running two T3/60 trims off 88 turbo coupes. I don't think the 88 TC's came with 60 trims...only the SVO variant. I had mine rebuilt after getting them from a bone yard to use 60 trim wheels.
With the 2 T3's plumbed in through 2 1G eclipse intercoolers and running 14ish psi I was able to snap a few input shafts off some T5's. It would pretty much roast the tires at 70mph and below.
Once we moved up to a T3/T4 hybrid and ran 21psi we started cracking blocks. Shortly after that I sold the car to a guy in Kansas.
So it works and works well. If you are going to do all the fabricating like I did it won't cost that much. Probably around 1500.00 if you are careful. The damn oil lines, intake lines and coolant lines cost the most for me...
Oh, I ran the car with a Pro-M 77 for a good while with no issues. I switched to SDS to try and pick up some power... it worked but wasn't a "must have".
Good luck!

Never mind. I just followed the link. I rode in that car when you were at that car dealership on Florida. You took me for a spin and that car hauled ass. And yes, it did spin the tires at the top of 4th gear.
As far as turbo's. The 87-88 TC's had the smaller IHI turbo's. 83-86 TC's had the T3 (some say auto had .48 exhaust, stick had .63 but its tough to say for sure). All SVO's came with a .63 exhaust, but you'll never find an SVO in the JY so don't worry about it. Merkur XR4Ti's all had T3's and came with either .48 or .63 exhaust. Basically, since the cars are so old now, you'll really have to look and see what it has. T3 vs IHI is easy (says on the compressor housing scroll). The exhaust A/R will be cast into the turbine housing scroll (48 or 63).

I remember that ride with you. It wasn't long after that ride that we grenaded the first T5
We were still on the MAF then too.
As for the vehicles the turbos were sourced from; I know I requested TC units... I wasn't sure on the year. I do know there were not IHI however.
I agree that getting a couple T3's out of a bone yard today might prove challenging. You could use just about any integral waste gate setup if you are going to fab everything anyway.
I'm not up on what the eclipses came with but it seems to me you might be able to use a coupe of those if you scratch you head enough on it.
Push comes to shove... just buy 2 new T3's. I remember paying <$500.00 for new ones back in the day for other vehicles. Sure you'll bump the cost a bit but you won't have to worry about rebuilds..
I miss my old 5.0... The supra is faster, but man.. I do miss the on command tire hazings
I had the most fun in that GT....People bad mouth the "rustang" but you really can't beat what you get if all you are concerned with is going fast in a straight line.
Now stopping... that's another matter entirely!!
