Aod went out
Hey guys well the stock aod trew in the towel i was thinking of buying one of those level 2 trannys they say they work out all the bugs out n put heavy duty bnads n clutches on them its for a 87 5.0 or those anyone in here do the conversion of auto to automatic what do ya think i should do with it?
Sorry to hear about your AOD woes. I'm not sure how much those Level 2 transmissions go for, but you may want to look into a 5-speed swap. Sometimes you can source all the parts for the same price as a "built" AOD. In my past experiences, even the "built" AODs don't have a long shelf life. Perhaps things have changed?
Anywho, check out www.stangparts.com if you are considering a manual transmission. They put together 5-speed conversion kits for a fair price.

Well its good to see the AOD aftermarket is improving. A while ago (probably 7 or so years), my brother had one of the first P/A AODs with the manual valvebody and tranny break. That transmission was a joke, I think he had it maybe a few months before it lost all but 1st gear.
I went through three AOD rebuilds (in a two-year time period) before I sold my car. Even after the last rebuild that damn thing never acted right.
Regardless of how improved the AOD aftermarket may be, I still have that bitter taste in my mouth of hundreds of dollars wasted. If I were to do it over again, I would have saved my money and went with a TKO or a C4...unless someone would have offered me an AOD with a warranty worth a damn.

PA stands for Prince Albert.
Actually it means Performance Automatic. As far as I know, no one would offer a lifetime warranty on a transmission. Maybe they offer like a year warranty or something.
