T-56 tranny (8000 miles) w/ bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, tri-ax shifter, firewall adjuster, complete.


I offered $1300 and the guy said he thought that was fair and that i had top bid...

worth it ?

 

Just be careful man. My policy is to never pay more than core value if you can't verify condition before hand. My best friend bought a GM T56 for his TA, paid like $900 for it. Came out of a running car, driven by grandma to church, blah blah blah. Got the tranny in, and it jumped out of all gears, made all kinds of shitty noises, and had more shavings on the drain plug than oil. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is

 

That is one hell of a deal, particularly since the transmission alone usually costs around $2k brand new. Like Dave said, it sounds almost too good to be true. Is there any way you can inspect it prior to purchase?

Why? The T-56 is a stronger transmission.

 

Cheaper, but you could get a new tko tranny for 1300.

If you can verify that this tranny has no problems before purchase then I'd say definately do it if you can afford it. I know for me it would be worth $1300 for the peace of mind alone.

 

What is the tranny outta of anyway?

 

its out of a cobra.. guy is putting his KB up to 17+ psi and going straight axel and Auto tranny (shooting for some single digits i believe)... he's a pretty straight kind of guy.. he says the tranny has no issues.. he just knows it wont hold up to what he wants it for.. he also has his stock IRs.. buti dont think i can afford both..and am leaning away from IRS for now.

i heard tko is stronger, and doesnt the t 56 have the shitty 1st /2nd gear ratios ?
