They do make serial port replicators that will allow you to go from serial to USB.

Here is a nice serial port replicator. $80 is a nice alternative to spending $200+ on a laptop just to have them built in.

Those don't necessarily work though. I was specifically told by Electromotive NOT to use an adapter. Also here at Nokia we will not support any hardware or software if they are using one of those adapters.
