What should my next mod be???
HAS ANYONE HEARD OF FORDS IRS IN HERE AND HOW BAD IT SUCKS , AND THE LOWER THE GEAR RATIO THE WORST IT GETS. PUT LOWER GEARS IN THE IRS AND KISS YOUR HALF SHAFTS GOODBYE, NOT TO MENTION THE PRICE TO DO GEARS ON IRS. LIKE I SAID EARLY IF YOU REALY WANT TO BE FAST WITH DRAG RADIALS GO TO SOLID AXLE .

I would much rather have IRS than solid axle myself but I rarely drag race my car. IMO first mod to do to any 32valve 4.6 should be 4.30's nothing less 4.10's or 3.90's if you do alot of highway driving.

Price do gears on IRS ?
And it is not like he is making 400 + h.p. at the wheels or something. On his car a set of 4.30's would make a huge difference and effect drivabilty very little. Once it is in 5th gear it will not eat much more gas than the factory gear for those that say the m.p.g. will get bad.
So to answer the question, GEARS.
Id swap the rear axel before you swap gears. I think Leonard is looking for an IRS come to think if it. Go on The Corral and see what most of those guys do. Other then that, go for pullies and/or Dencecharger.

gear = 700$
will, every quick mod motor has a power adder for a reason. that should be your first mod.
if you do the gear go with the 4:30.... you always have the ls1 to drive. ya know

The 99/01 Cobra's have weak IRS setups. If he installs a tall gear in that rearend it's going break period. First will be halfshafts ( a good set cost about $800). Next will be the diff as the 99/01 IRS's wheel hop regardless.
Following those issues will be a vibration problem which will require a driveshaft. Mind you noone makes a driveshaft for the 99/01 so it has to be a custom job.
For those of you telling him to go with a tall gear with the factory IRS have no clue what your talking about. If you don't know about something don't mislead them with bad information.
Now if Will goes with a live axle then yes I would agree the 4.30's would make a world of difference.

Well that's funny the guy that does my gear changes has done several and according to him there has never been any complaints. Of course he shims everything accordingly which is where 98% of the people go wrong when they are doing it themselves or are having a less than reputable shop doing the install.
I would not have answered if I did not have something to go by especially since I don't claim to know a lot about the gentle mod motor cars.
But do as you want Will, for every question you ask you will get 10 different responses.
