Default fuel pressure reg myth or fact?

I have a friend who seems certain that if I were to run a dry kit(nitrous) on my car I could put a FPR on there and increase fuel pressure with the nitrous to compensate for the lack of fuel that would normally be there.

Now he thinks that a FPR makes my injectors push more fuel...
I think that injector pulse cannot be changed with a FPR because they are 19 pounds injectors and only inject 19 #'s an hour and wont push anymore. To add more fuel for a nitrous mix I would have to step up to the next available size which would be 24.

I dont plan on running a dry if I run a shot at all but he seems to think that the FPR will add fuel into the cylinders when all it does is regulate how much flow is in the line because of the fuel pump either pushing to much or to little.

Please respond with yes a FPR adds more fuel to the cylinders or no it does not and explain more in depth if you wish.
Thanks

Chris

I think you should step away from the nitrous kit...no...make that run away...and never look back! Not even a peak!!

But if you must know...your friend is correct. By spiking the fuel pressure when you spray you are essentially delivering more fuel. But you have not increased injector pulse width at all. If an injectors PW is 20 milliseconds and fuel flows through that injector at 42 psi for 20 milliseconds it will flow X amount of fuel. If you open the injector for that same 20 milliseconds but raise the fuel pressure to 70 psi you will be delivering more fuel in the same time frame.

I believe the injectors will increase volume with increased pressure, but only to a certain point. At some point, they will actually begin to deliver less fuel. They can function at over 100% however.

something could hardly considered catastrophic on such an easily obtainable motor which would cost him like 500 bucks to get a whole new engine installed when he fries his current one. No worries chris, spray away!!!!!!!!
