im not sure exactly why they just said i needed one. and from what i understand this isnt something i should mess around with, if it is the case.

have someone else look at it to be sure. You need need 2 special tools to do a harmoninc balancer.

why change it unless its bad? Unless you were going to upgrade to a better balancer like a Romac or Fluidampr

yeah but how do i know its bad. what my car wouldnt start or something? how would i check it? or should i just change it anyways?

Look at it while the car is running, if it is wobbling, it's bad. Check the front face. It is made with basically the inner hub and an outer ring. They are joined together with a rubber layer in between them. If the rubber is squeezing/oozing out, it is bad. P\Pull the spout and put a timing light on it and see what the timing reads. If it reads something stupid like say 10^ plus or minus 10, it has slipped and is bad.

my balancer was reading 16 degrees before i had it changed, then it read 22 :O Tuned it back down to 14 and that was the straw that broke the camels back when it came to traction.
