There are quite a few guys running 50-75 hp shots on these cars. On the turbo cars they pick up quite a bit more power than the hp would indicate (John Boos out of Bradenton picks up 2.5 seconds in the 1/4 with a 100 shot on a race car).
You can pretty much do whatever you want to the motor and as long as you don't go over 400hp you'll keep the stock bottom end happy. This is assuming a good tune, but the only people to have bottom end problems are high HP cars with a shitty tune (usually caused by bad gas, timing screwup, stuff like that), or 2 people who have cracked the bores on a .030 overbore (not normal by far, seems to be a core shift issue).
Mine's running like a champ right now. At 10psi ish it pulls plenty strong. Yesterday on Dale Mabry I was actually pulling on a LT1 Z28 automatic car

the 2.3Ts are stout little engines and with under a grand of work can hit an easy 300-325hp, put the throttle in a bottle on there and your looking at whoopin v8s easy.. i came so close to putting a juiced 2.3T in my stang, but i instead juiced the n/a 2.3, didnt like it and put a 302 in it
