Default My newest problem with the 5.0

I was on my way back from Chris's party Monday afternoon comin from Tampa to St.Pete when my speedo goes wack on me.It bobbed and then quit. Totally smacked dead bottom and occasionally went up and down a lil bit. Well I got halfway home and then smoke starts pouring through my shifter and tranni area. I wondered what the hell could be burning.

Turns out its the cable for the speedo, the gear piece and all was dangling and barely in the tranni and in turn the tranni was leaking onto my h pipe making the nicest smoke all the way home.

I looked under it yesterday and found im missing the lil bolt or screw the connects and holds the gear in the tranni.

I needed a new wire as mine was all frayed from heat or something in its previous ownership and I need that lil bolt still sop I bought a new cable from Autozone for 18 bucks and grabbed two new zerk fitted u-joints while I was at it.If its not the u-joints then o well,I guess im just gonna have to have them spin it and see how unbalanced it is or get a new yoke..

(Question)....
Can my u-joints be fitted to my driveshaft with a hammer?I was told I could not do it, well rather in exact words ,have fun..

I took that as it being super hard to do it with a hammer and my friend told me he broke a vice trying to get his back on the shaft, should I have someone with a pneumatic press do this?

pics here....

I would honestly just have the shop that is gonna balance it put new u-joints in if you are not equipped for it. When I had a DS made for my 460 car it was only $10-15 to have them do it, wasn't even worth my time.

Also check to see how much it will cost you to get it balanced and for the u-joints as it may be just a little more to get an aluminum DS. I think you will be in the $70 area for your DS and $150 for a new one, something to consider.

Do you own a Torch Red FRC and tremble every time you drive under I75 on Hwy 60 and look in your rearview mirror? If so you are suffering from what is known as Cobraphobia.

Try Fleetpride - 626-6197. They have built a couple custom drive shafts for my dad. Reasonable prices, and fairly fast.
