You're gonna spend so much time rowing through the gears it might hurt your ET's.

I had 3.55's from the factory, the 4.56's feel great. My last car was a 5.0 with 4.10's and a 150 shot and I still had time to shift launching at 3500 on the spray. It's not as bad as you think, you should give it a try. Besides that, I'm only shifting one more time and the optimal gear to go through the traps in is 1:1 or 4th.

And as the old addage goes that Jomar quoted, "Don't fear the gear", I don't.

you feel like 1st is useless alchoholica? im running 3.73s and when you floor it from the line, first still goes to like 25mph with a 5500-6000rpm shit on the stock tach, that's a good 2 seconds in gear, count it, 0 ... 1 ... 2,

In regular everyday driving I just start in second gear to avoid the dreaded 8 or 9 mph shift ... I wish i would have gotten 4.10s, but my parents wouldn't let me .

N20D ... your mod motor revs quite a bit higher than these 5.0's, I'm sure you know that. So a 4.56 gear shifting at almost 7000rpms is probably the same as a 5.0 with 3.73 or 3.9 shifting at 5500, mph wise. I think anything more than 4.10 on the street with a 5.0 is kind of overkill.

I remember test driving a mach and the rpms still seemed to have a little drag ont he way up to the powerband, but once it got to revin ... it was a beast, so I'm sure you won't be finding me messing with you on the road anymore, I'm not ready for that kind of beatdown .

In stock form these cars don't wake up until 4000 rpms, but when they do it's like night and day. I wouldn't go over a 4.10 gear on a 5.0 as well, but my car did just fine with a power adder and that steep of a gear. I wanted to get the most out of my car N/A so after some dilberating, Jomar talked me into a 4.56. I couldn't be happier. The car is stout as hell from a stop and pulls very hard from a 3rd gear roll to help me hang with those pesky LS1's.

4v's have a 7000 rpm operating range. Steep gears suit our cars VERY well. I have 4.10's in mine and it is not enough. I plan on going 4.30 only because I plan to spray the car again. If I was staying n/a I would go with 4.56's also.
