Wonder if any of this will spill over into some of the upcoming Ford projects ?
Here is the article on the car:
While some of Volvo's more recent efforts have gone on to receive the "R" treatment, even the S40's more modest relatives have benefited from crisper interior layouts, and most have become available with all-wheel-drive and manual transmissions.
Being overtaken by such mundane transportation devices as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima has a way of crimping one's ego, especially when the competition are at once more capacious, prettier, and cost less to boot.
Thus equipped - sporting a six-speed manual transmission, all-wheel-drive, and 220hp 5-banger with the wick turned up on its turbo, the new model in T5 specification makes an altogether more compelling case for itself than its predecessor. That said, T5 or no, the S40 will remain down a cylinder and a bit short of grunt to several of its prime competitors (the Accord, for example, has a 240hp V6), but then again, most lack its available awd.
