Angry ........................

Well I had to take my car back today to the shop since the front brakes were squeeking REALLY bad. They tried everything to get it to stop and it just wouldn't let up on the Driver's side... they even replaced the hub bearing with no luck.

So 5 hours later I am driving back home and I hear a rubbing noise coming from the back... turn around.. go back to the shop. They went from one side of that car to the other looking for the sound (mechanic even went so far as to have me drive it while he was laying down in the trunk so he could pin point the noise). No luck there either.. couldn't see anything rubbing.. nothing was out of whack.. though he did point out that the rear sway bar is cracked on both sides.

So now I'm down 8 hours and it's still no better (actually worse if you want to count the rubbing sound now) than it was before.

I will say though that they had a few of them working on it... and they still didn't charge me squat for the day.

These are race pads as well... but do yours squeek ONLY when the brakes are not applied? Just as soon as I step on the pedal the noise ceases.

I thought most brake squeeking was the result of the pad moving against the caliper. I could be the spring is not holding the pad firmly, the pad is not the same deminsion as the one it replaced, or you need some anti squeel. The noise stops when the caliper puts some pressure on it.

The noise from the rear on the car could be the drive shaft rubbing against the e brake cable.

Edit - I just remembered you have a Cobra, and I believe your year has IRS. Still, it could be the drive shaft, especially if you have the car lowered. Look for marks on the driveshaft.

no. mine squeak under light braking.

maybe your caliper is sticking just a tad bit?

One thing i've found is that the OEM ford cobra pads don't require any kind of no squeak because they have some sort of a heavy duty paperlike backing that doesn't make any noise when it moves against the the caliper body. The same can't be said for the Hawk HP plus pads i'm using. Even with no squeak on the back of the pads, they eventually start to squeak. I don't 'like' the squeaking per se, but i deal with it. It's that or have smouldering pads that don't work after 5 or 6 100mph -> 40mph brakes in a two minute period of time.

No IRS here... that came in 99

I'll check out the driveshaft in the a.m. though I'm not all that hopeful since we looked at everything while it was up on the lift.. even had the car running and in gear to see if there was anything that stood out.

Could be just the pads.... don't think it's the caliper since it was apart and looked at a number of times to see what the problem might be.. plus all the shims were moved around to find some kind of "sweet spot" no luck

If someone were to look at it and tell me.. "Yep.. just the pads.." then so be it.. I can just turn the radio up
